Shopping for a wedding gown is unfamiliar territory for almost everyone, and that’s completely normal. Here is exactly how an appointment at House of Avery runs, so nothing about the day catches you off guard.
Before you try anything on, we’ll talk through your venue, the season, your budget, and the things you already know you love. It saves an hour of guessing.
You’ll be helped in and out of every gown. We’ll pull silhouettes you asked for and one or two you didn’t, because that’s often the one.
Gowns are made to order and take time to arrive, then time to alter. We’ll tell you the honest date you need to decide by, and help you plan back from your wedding day.
About ninety minutes. That is enough time to try on a real range without rushing, and it leaves room to revisit a favourite at the end.
Two or three is the sweet spot. Bring the people whose opinion you actually want. A large group tends to pull a bride in several directions at once, and there is more seating for a small party.
Seamless, nude underthings work best under most gowns, and a strapless bra if you have one. If you already know roughly what heel height you will wear, bring shoes close to it so hems read correctly.
Nine to twelve months before the wedding is comfortable. Gowns are made to order and typically take several months to arrive, then alterations need their own window. If your date is sooner than that, come in anyway and tell us: we will steer you toward what can realistically arrive in time.
Alterations are done by an independent seamstress rather than in house. We will point you to someone we trust and make sure your timeline accounts for the fittings.
Sample gowns in store cover a range of sizes, and we clip and pin so you can see how a style will sit on your body even when the sample is not your exact size. Gowns are then ordered to your measurements.
Yes. Photos help enormously when you are comparing gowns later or showing someone who could not come with you.
Appointments are strongly encouraged so a stylist is dedicated to you for the full session. Walk-ins are welcome when there is availability, but we cannot promise a fitting room without notice.
Email us and we will answer honestly, even if the answer is that we are not the right shop for what you are after.
